Freshman Year - Economics

Learning Objectives

  • To enable students to reach a level equivalent to the third year of a bachelor’s degree in economics, regardless of their path of entry.
  • Prepare students for the Master’s 1 in Economics at Paris-Saclay University—either the “Master of Economics ” track or the “Economics, Organization and Society” track—both focused on the fields of formal economics, statistics, and econometrics. This L3 program also provides high-quality training in the fundamentals of economics for those who wish to pursue other disciplines.

The academic environment

  • The program is taught by the faculty in economics and other disciplines (notably management, history, and sociology) from the DER SHS.
  • Two associated research laboratories: the Paris-Saclay Economics Center (CEPS), focused on three major themes (economic theory, macroeconomics, and applied economics), and the Institutions and Historical Dynamics of the Economy and Society Laboratory (IDHES), which takes a more heterodox approach and offers a multidisciplinary analysis of the institutions that structure economic activities.

"Major" and "Minor" Courses

As part of the first year in the Social Sciences and Humanities program, each student must complete a third-year (L3) program (60 ECTS) in a discipline chosen as a “major,” and a complementary program in another discipline chosen as a “minor” (20 ECTS). As part of the third-year economics major, students choose a complementary program (minor) from among the following three disciplines: management, economics , or history.
