Master 1 - Master of Economics

Educational Objectives

  • The objective of this master’s degree is to provide a general curriculum in economics at the research level, enabling students to continue on to a Ph.D. program.
  • Students will acquire the fundamental techniques and concepts in economics, both theoretical and empirical, as well as the ability to think critically about how to apply them.
  • The first year of the program (M1) is structured around 8 required core courses that form the common foundation upon which the research specialization in the second year (M2) will be based, supplemented by two elective introductory courses and two research projects. The Research Master’s thesis will allow students to demonstrate their ability to conduct independent, original, and innovative scientific research.

Working environment

  • Two research laboratories at the ENS: the Institut des sciences sociales du politique (ISP), which combines sociology, history, and political science; and the Institutions et Dynamiques historiques de l'économie et de la société (IDHES) laboratory, which develops a multidisciplinary approach to economic activities and the institutions that structure them; and the Centre d'Economie de Paris-Saclay (CEPS), focusing on three main themes (economic theory, macroeconomics, and applied economics).
  • One research laboratory at the Jean Monet Faculty: the Research Center in Economics & Management (RITM) takes a multidisciplinary approach to a wide range of subjects linking economics and management.
