Learning Objectives
- To familiarize students with the fundamental concepts and paradigms of sociology; to introduce them to a variety of research methods; and to help them develop a critical and reflective mindset.
- To prepare students for the Master’s 1 in Sociology at Paris-Saclay University—either the “Quantitative Sociology and Demography (SQD)” track or the “Contemporary Sociology” track. It also provides high-quality training in the fundamentals of sociology to students wishing to pursue other master’s programs, such as the Master 1 in Economics, Organization, and Society (EOS).
The Academic Environment
- The program is taught by the faculty in sociology and other disciplines (law and economics) from the DER SHS.
- Two associated research laboratories: the Institute for Social and Political Sciences (ISP), which combines sociology, history, and political science; and the Laboratory for Institutions and Historical Dynamics of the Economy and Society (IDHES), which develops a multidisciplinary approach to economic activities and the institutions that structure them.
"Major" and "Minor" Courses
As part of the first year in the SHS program, each student must complete a third-year (L3) program (60 ECTS) in a discipline chosen as a “major,” and a complementary program in another discipline chosen as a “minor” (20 ECTS). As part of the Bachelor’s degree in Sociology (major), students choose a complementary program (minor) from among the following two disciplines: economics and history.
